The First Amendment covers more than free speech. It also includes freedom of religion, press, assembly, and petition. When our founders created it they placed it first because it was the foundational principle for those that would follow. As the First Amendment goes, so go they all. As there are attempts to erode the meaning of various aspects of the First Amendment we must guard them with greater vigor.

While Congress is the subject: “Congress shall make no law respecting….” what does it mean when there are more powerful and more influential institutions than Congress? At what point do we hold those more powerful institutions to account. Can we? Can Congress or has it all grown too big to control?
