This week, and who knows, maybe in the coming weeks, we decided to just rap about things instead of planning out a subject beforehand.

Back in the ’70s, we used the term “rap” to mean talk or chat in an easy and familiar manner. Rap music doesn’t have much to do with the original meaning of the word rap. There was even a song made about rapping. If guys were good rappers they could get the girls.

We have our ritual. Mac shows up at 1 pm on Thursday. We shoot the breeze, aka rap, for some time. Then we grab some late lunch and watch the previous night’s episode of Gutfeld, the number 1 late-night program. Then we rap some more and try to decide what we are going to talk about.

I often said to Mac that I think the best conversations we have are those behind the scenes. We jump from one thing to another just like most friends do. Our discussions usually revolve around the news, politics, culture, science, and religion.

I like all topics but I’m keenly interested in science, religion, and philosophy. Mac says he is a 30,000-foot view guy. When I think I know something I am always willing to revisit things. At the 30,000-foot level, Mac and I generally agree.

It is funny, that Mac mentions how he never wanted to become the old man who shouts at kids “get off my grass”. He fears he has become that to some extent. In that way, we differ. I define myself as a healthy skeptic. I am even skeptical of my own thoughts. As the lyrics of Stairway to Heaven say:

In a tree by the brook, there’s a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Hope you enjoy this style of rapping with Mac and Mike.
