Mac’s Thoughts

Is a Civil War in America a possibility? Is it likely? To those veterans who have seen “war” up close and personal, the idea is abhorrent! War is a terrible thing. There really are no “winners”.

Yet the United States of America is changing. I used to believe that men (and women!) of “goodwill” would find common ground upon which they could compromise. Is that the America of today? Riots in Portland have been ongoing for over a full year. Riots in many other cities are commonplace. Police are quitting and retiring in vast numbers, while our streets are becoming ever more dangerous.

Who is to BLAME? Does it matter? Our politics are becoming ever so much more divided left and right! When one side wants to “Defund the Police”, the very force for good that protects society, while the other side demands MORE safety and security, where is the “common ground to be found? Cancel culture demands adherence to specific standards, while others believe that “cancel culture is inherently wrong. Where is the room for compromise? In many places today they are insisting that there must be “gun control”, while in many places across the “fruited plain”, gun rights are as loved and embraced as the ability to breathe. Is there “common ground” in these two extreme ends of the spectrum?

Mac and Mike have come to the conclusion, different then the opinions we held a few short years ago, that while “not likely”, a United States Civil War is certainly a possibility.

This video is a clarion call! Let us recognize that when people “fear”, they will react in unpredictable ways. When they no longer feel safe, or that they, their family, and/or their property is ”at risk”, they will use every means possible to protect and defend those that they love. In absence of effective policing, is it possible individuals may have to protect themselves from those who wish to do them or their property harm?

In St. Louis there recently was an incident where a mob of protesters broke through a fence, threatened homeowners, who came out on there porch brandishing weapons to defend themselves and their property. They were of course charged with a crime! (No, not the trespassers who broke the fence to protest on private property, the couple who protected their lives and property with guns)

Please review this video and see if you agree that there are circumstances we discuss that COULD lead to civil disobedience, even civil war. We ALL must work as hard as we possibly can to avoid such an outcome. Let “cooler heads” prevail!

Mike’s Thoughts

For many years people would talk about a coming civil war. Most of the time Mike blew them off as part of the lunatic fringe. To Mike, most things are a sliding scale of probabilities. Over time the potential of civil war started to seem more likely.

A generational shift in the way we viewed one another as Americans started to stir. With the advent of Social Media, 24/7 competing so-called News channels, and what was once considered news websites, the advocacy for a different type of America was thrust to the forefront.

We used to have face-to-face discussions. If someone said something as stupid as “I think we should de-fund the police” they would have gotten odd looks from nearly everyone. Today, there are not just people on the streets that take this idea seriously. There are politicians and people in the “Press” that not only advocated for this but actually did it in some major cities!

Logic would dictate that these people are either stupid or intentionally trying to destroy civil society. Mike imagines there some of each kind involved. There are the nefarious Socialists, Communists, Anarchists, Black Supremacists (and others) working with the emotional people in the streets that are not very smart.

Either way, it is leading in the direction of a higher probability of civil war.
