Mac and Mike discuss the ramifications of fully understanding one another. What if we could not hide our thoughts from each other? Would it make the world better? What would be the difference between suddenly acquiring this ability versus being born with it? This is a fun mental challenge akin to the philosophical thought experiment known as “Mary’s Room“.
The results of suddenly having a new ability are quite different from growing up with an ability that only a new generation would have at its disposal. We have matured in a world where we have private thoughts. However, if a new generation was born where it was natural, the outcomes would be quite different.
